On this day in 1977: Pelé plays his final game for The New York Cosmos against Santos at Giants Stadium
We want our supporters to help us design the first-ever Official Club Scarf of The New York Cosmos. This is your club, and we want you to have the final say in your club’s scarf, too. We will post five (5) initial scarf designs to facebook, purely for inspiration. The rest is up to you. Email us your best Cosmos scarf designs at cosmoscountry@newyorkcosmos.com by October 1st, 2011. All submissions must be a .JPEG, .PDF, .PNG file under 1 MB. All design submissions must include “NEW YORK COSMOS” or “COSMOS” on the front and feature our iconic club crest. Cosmos Legends and club staff will pick our top 3 entries along with two of our designs and post them to facebook page for a final fan vote. You will choose the winner by “liking” your favorite scarf design. If your scarf design is selected by the club as one of our top 3, then you will win a $50 voucher to the Cosmos Shop and a Cosmos soccer ball. The winning design will become the Official Cosmos Club Scarf. The winner will win a $100 voucher to the Cosmos shop + a signature Cosmos anthem jacket + official Cosmos match ball. All the supporters who vote in the Cosmos Scarf Design contest will also be entered into a drawing. One lucky fan will be chosen at random and will receive a Cosmos t-shirt.
The New York Cosmos Blackout Contest: Reblog by the end of July 13th with your favorite Brazil player of all-time and you’re entered to win the new Cosmos ball from Umbro’s Cosmos Blackout Collection, inspired by Carlos Alberto’s experience the night he signed for the New York Cosmos.
The Story: It’s known as the city that never sleeps, but on July 13th, 1977 New York fell into complete darkness as a blackout swept over the entire area, plunging New York City into chaos. By coincidence, legendary Brazilian defender Carlos Alberto Torres was arriving in the city at the same exact time to sign for the New York Cosmos.
We’ve created this fantastic video that brings to life that moment when Carlos Alberto Torres arrived in New York City during the blackout. Narrated by El Capitán himself, it tells the story of the blackout and Carlos Alberto’s first day in New York City.
